How Much Does It Cost to Rent a Car in Lagos in 2026? (Complete Pricing Breakdown)

If you’ve started shopping for a rental car in Lagos, you’ve probably noticed the same frustrating thing: nobody publishes real prices. Every site says “starts from” and asks you to “request a quote.” Useless when you’re on a budget.

So here’s an actual, transparent breakdown of what you’ll pay to rent a car in Lagos in 2026, what’s included in the price, what isn’t, and how to avoid getting overcharged.

Quick answer: Lagos car rental prices in 2026

These are realistic Lagos market rates as of 2026. Prices vary by vehicle age, season, and provider. Wedding and event packages are usually priced separately.

Why prices vary so much

Two cars that look the same on the outside can have rental prices ₦40,000 apart per day. Here’s what actually drives the difference:

Vehicle year and condition. A 2018 Camry rents for less than a 2022 Camry. Older cars also have more breakdown risk, which is why some operators discount them and others avoid them entirely.

Driver included. All Muvment rentals come with a vetted, professional driver as standard. In Nigeria, this is the default expectation for car rental, and it removes the headaches of Lagos traffic, security deposits, and personal liability. The driver cost is built into the daily rate, not added on top.

Fuel arrangement. Some quotes include fuel for the standard 12-hour day; others don’t. Always confirm.

Outskirt fee. Our pricing covers most central city areas. However, trips involving outskirts locations like Sangotedo, Ikorodu Town, Festac, Badagry, or Alimosho will attract additional charges. The fee reflects the longer travel times and logistics involved in serving those areas.

Geographic coverage. A car for “movement within Lagos” is cheaper than one cleared for interstate trips. Going outside Lagos (to Ibadan, Abuja, anywhere) typically adds a per-kilometer or per-trip surcharge.

Insurance type. Comprehensive cover with low excess costs more upfront but can save you millions if something happens.

What’s actually included in a Lagos car rental?

This is where most people get caught out. Here’s what a standard Lagos rental usually does and doesn’t cover.

Usually included:

Usually NOT included (you pay extra):

Always get the breakdown in writing before you pay.

Daily vs weekly vs monthly: which makes sense for you?

Single-day rentals are convenient but come at the highest per-day cost. The longer you commit, the cheaper it gets per day.

Example: Toyota Camry rental rates

If you need a car for more than 4 or 5 days, ask about weekly or monthly rates rather than booking day-by-day. The savings are meaningful.

Hidden fees to watch for

This is where dodgy operators make their margin. Things to ask about specifically:

Security deposit. A small refundable deposit may be requested for high-value vehicles or specific use cases. Reasonable deposits range from ₦100,000 to ₦500,000 for standard cars and ₦500,000 to ₦2,000,000 for luxury vehicles. Anything significantly above this should be questioned.

Cancellation fees. We charge up to 50 percent if you cancel within 24 hours.

“Documentation” fees. Vague line items that can add ₦10,000 to ₦20,000 to your bill. Ask what they’re for; refuse if vague.

City-by-city comparison

If you’re considering rental in other Nigerian cities, here’s how Lagos compares:

Lagos

Average Sedan/day; ₦100,000 to ₦120,000

Why the difference; Highest demand, most options

Abuja

Average Sedan/day; ₦115,000 to ₦120,000

Why the difference; High government and corporate demand, fewer providers

Port Harcourt

Average Sedan/day; ₦130,000 to ₦155,000

Why the difference; Oil and gas premium, limited fleet

Abia

Average Sedan/day; ₦95,000 to ₦115,000

Why the difference; Lower demand, fewer premium options
